Car Barn Race Worx for FIA Games 2024

Designing the Swiss national team car for the 2024 FIA Games is obviously both an honor and a challenge.

Besides the requirements such as flag, country name and FIA regulations, it is a chance to define the represented country and its inhabitants through history, stories, elements, colors and — last but not  least — some humorous clichés.

After the legendary cheese car for the 2022 FIA games in Le Castellet we were looking forward to coming up with something surprising, while completely aesthetically different and impressive in terms of content and design.

Out of many conceptual ideas, one crystallized: What is Switzerland known for all over the world? What keeps the planet spinning? By analyzing the Swiss banknotes, recurring elements were derived as design principles: the hands, the landmarks, the topographical lines, the numbers and the typography.

Applied to the history of The Car Barn and the Race Worx racing team, the subtle design, characterized by details and safety aspects, served as the starting point. The story on the car takes the inclined viewer on a journey from the home of The Car Barn in Horgen near Zurich, all the way to Valencia in Spain. Visiting historical landmarks, monuments, animals, topographical definitions, signs or the functional mechanical details of the watchmakers in Geneva.

Completed by typographical details, set — of course — in Helvetica.

As it turned out the Swiss team received the most personal attention, the most media coverage and a sensational 3rd place in the contest.

A pleasing little addition is the culturally unifying idea of integrating the country name in all Swiss national languages into the design: Suisse, Svizra, Schweiz, Svizzera, Switzerland. +
